This subject introduces students to planning and producing interview-based content. Students will develop location and field sound recording skills for documentary and drama-based production work. Students will develop practical film production skills by creating an audio documentary and audiovisual essay.

Skills learned in this subject are applied in parallel production to FTV1004.10 Project 1: Documentary.

This subject provides students with an introduction to critical European and Hollywood films. Students explore Western cinema's technological, aesthetic and cultural impacts. Through viewing and discussion, students will broaden their worldview of cinema to inform their filmmaking practice.

This subject requires students to apply their first-semester studies to the planning, production and post-production of a short documentary film. Students research, prepare and pitch their documentary ideas for peer review. If selected, teams supply signed release forms for filmed subjects and location agreements if required.

This subject introduces students to the fundamental skills and key concepts involved in the process of screenwriting for short fiction and non-fiction film. Students learn the basic characteristics of screen stories including structure, character development and visual storytelling. Students are also introduced to pre-production and production management.
